Summary

The money saved by free software use is a good incentive to install some at home or even in one classroom without much difficulties. Because free software is promoted by many enthusiastic individuals knowing so well how to communicate their enthusiasm, it seems obvious to generalize the free software adoption to a whole organization.

All is not that simple. Installing a piece of software on one computer is a thing. Ensuring the correct deployment of that same software on thousands of computers in dozens of different schools is another.

Many intiatives for free software adoption in the education domain have failed in various organizations, some having lead to the replacement of the free software by proprietary software.

This conference aims at showing what pitfalls can appear and how to avoid them during a free software deployment within an organization.
