RELIER - REférencer les développements Logiciels Internes de l’Enseignement supérieur et de la Recherche

The PLUME open platform has three main objectives involving mainly open source software, and the RELIER project focuses on the second : to improve the visibility of software produced by research laboratories within the higher education and research communities. In order to attain this ambitious goal, the project proposes index cards, named "Dév Ens Sup - Recherche", describing research software, written either by the authors of the software or by software correspondents designed by the laboratory. These index cards briefly describe the main features of the software, including references to research publications associated to it. They can be considered as a bibliographic reference for the software.

The "Dév Ens Sup - Recherche" cards involve any kind of program developped in a research laboratory without restriction regarding its final status, utilization or distribution. There is not a software deposit on the PLUME platform.

The first "Dév Ens Sup - Recherche" cards have been published since September 2008 and they come mainly from the three pilot laboratories (the Camille Jordan Institut at Lyon, the Gaspard-Monge computing research laboratory at Marne-la-Vallée and the computing research laboratory LAAS at Toulouse) within research areas such as computing, maths, biology, SHS, etc. Today they come from a wide range of laboratories.

These cards also indicate the software license (frequently GPL or LGPL). In order to give further information on this suject we have written a PLUME resource card "FAQ : licence & copyright pour les développements de logiciels libres de laboratoires de recherche".

Teresa Gomez-Diaz is a CNRS research engineer at the Gaspard-Monge computing research laboratory (UMR 8049 CNRS), University Paris-Est Marne-la-Vallée.
