A Human and Technical Look at the GNOME Git Migration

Discussions, flames, survey, analysis, much happened in the GNOME community over the switch from Subversion to a DVCS, and which one to choose. And then it happened. How was it handled ? What went well, what could have gone better ? Which other opportunities were seized at the time of the migration ? This talk presents the months preceding the migration, the week of the migration, and the aftermath.

A long time member of the Free Software community, after many years active in the Debian projet, Frederic Peters switched boat to GNOME where he works on project-wide stuff : the Build Brigade to make sure everything keeps building correctly, the library.gnome.org website to give access to all the documentation, the Release Team to, well, release things, the Commit Digests to give some publicity to the daily changes happening in the different modules, and finally the maintenance of JHBuild, the tool used by many community members to build the whole GNOME stack.
