Call for Presentation concerning the "Telephony, videoconference and video over IP" topic of the 10th Libre Software Meeting (Nantes, France, July 2009)

The Libre software meeting (LSM) is an annual event for the free software that take place in France since july 2000. This year, the LSM will take place in Nantes, ) from July 7th to 11th, 2009.

This text is the call for presentation of the "Telephony, videoconference and video over IP" topic. The other topics can be found at http://2009.rmll.info.

Free software used to have and still has a major role in networks and Internet. On the other hand, the Internet growth gave support for free software development. Internet and free software share some founding principles e.g. the openess, the collaborative work and the adoption of public standards. Today the Internet evolution allows new synchronous and real-time communications such as voice and video based applications.

Presentation in this topic will cover the following questions :

  • Telephony over IP : Free PBX (Asterisk, ...), specialized distributions.
  • Telephony over IP : real-world experience feedback.
  • Telephony over IP : PBX interoperability, public switched telephony network interconnection.

- * Videoconference : solutions, experiences, frameworks.

  • Theory : voice and video codecs, protocols, standards and norms.
  • Specific hardware : IP phones, videoconference stations.
  • Audio and video streaming.
  • Video on Demand.
  • Specific network configuration (e.g. security, quality of service).

Talks organization

The presentations can be made in French or English language, and will be 30 minutes long. Depending on received propositions, thematic workshops will be proposed to group conferences on common topics.

A summary in French or English is requested for each presentation. The submission deadline is March, 1st 2009.
