Parallel Colloquiums
This year the LSM community opens up. Hence, researchers communities, enterprise associations, education actors organize parallel colloquium concerning the free software movement during this LSM edition.
The colloquiums will take place on the LSM site or other sites. They are open to LSM participants.

Nowadays, Constraints Programming is a major tool for decision makers. This paradigm is based on the following concept : a model is defined by logical relations (constraints) on several variables. A solution to a problem presented in such a way is to give values to the variables so that all the constraints are respected.
CHOCO is a Java library proposing a toolset to modelize and solve constraints problems. The objectives of CHOCO are triples : offering a teaching support, being an active base for research and being robust enough for industrial applications. CHOCO is user centered, with an open-source code and concept personalized easily.
The colloquium will be held in three major phases :
Constraint Programming in general, and CHOCO in particular (1h),
Users feedback on actual projects based on CHOCO (40min),
Tutorial session about Constraint Programming and CHOCO (bring your machines) (80min and +)
Apache UIMA (official page)
The complex nature of NLP applications -and language itself- involves mixing different models, resources and algorithms in the same process, leading to interoperability and data exchange issues.
The Apache UIMA (Unstructured Information Management Architecture) framework offers appealing solutions to these problems. Apache UIMA is an open, industrial-strength, scaleable and extensible platform for creating, integrating and deploying un-(/semi-)structured information (text, audio, video...) management applications which help to build the bridge from unstructured information to structured knowledge. Apache UIMA dissociates the engineering middleware problems from NLP issues, its principles (semantic search and content analytics) are undergoing a standardization effort at OASIS, its international community is very active, and its Apache license fits research objectives and allows collaboration with industrial partners.
Under the topic "Libre resources and software for scientific research" of the 2009 LSM, a meeting around Apache UIMA is organised to encourage the development of a user and developer French-speaking community (http://www.uima-fr.org), with both conferences and a tutorial session.
